Spent several years studying the Fire District services and facility in my part of the County. It was apparent that a new station was needed. The Station 34 at 71st and West St. was becoming tired and needed major renovations especially in comparison to some of the new stations that we had built. Analysis indicated that it was a high volume station and much of the calls came from Haysville proper and the corridor along Broadway. There was no upgrade sche duled. I lobbied colleagues, partnered with Haysville officials, found funding and today we have a modern, new facility in Main St. in Haysville. Response times have improved, insurance rates went down for a significant number of Fire District folks, it houses the Quint that offers more capacity for some of the our big industrial businesses in the catchment area. It should serve the South Central part of Sedgwick County for decades.
